It has been a year of ups and downs, with him learning how to become potty trained, $100 visits to the vet and our trips to the park. However, as I have been spending more time at home I have become quite attached to our little guy. Through spending time with Frido, I discovered that he isn't like other ferrets, he is "special." Through observing his behavior over the past year and doing research on ferrets I found out that Frido is deaf.
You see, I have never been around ferrets and always just thought ferrets were unresponsive animals. However, it seems that ferrets usually do respond to sound and to your voice. It is also very common for white ferrets with dark eyes to be deaf (WHO KNEW!?). So I put two and two together, did some yelling tests and have proven our suspicions to be true—Frido is deaf. Nonetheless, this minor challenge makes us love him even more.

Am I the only person that gets freaked out by ferrets? I don't know how you could sleep soundly with one so close to your person. I'd worry they'd eat my jugular while I slept!

ReplyDeleteNo wonder he wasn't totally freaked out when my kids came around. I am happy that you found a perfect pet for you two. My kids still talk about Frito and how much they loved pushing him around in the pepsi box. Mason can still say frito with perfect clarity. Thanks frito for being my stand in pet for my kids.
