Harlem Apartment Search

So Pat went to go look at another apartment in Harlem today. We really like this area because we are familiar with it, as it is where we lived last summer, most of our friends live there, and it is convenient to get to Mid Town. He view a really nice apartment that is a HUGE one bedroom (800 sq feet—Huge in NYC terms), has a dishwasher, kitchen island, granite, new, all updated, doorman, workout room, nice laundry facilities, allows dogs (this is my new thing, I really want a dog), AC, Elevator, and just about EVERYTHING you could ever want. We thought the only problem with this place is that it is not available until June 1st; however, when Pat was walking home about a block away he saw a big commotion. There were police all around, a helicopter flying really low over head, and a crowd of people.

This is the picture he just sent me from his phone. I don't know much, but from what I gather from the picture it seems as though someone got shot! You can see the bullet whole in the backseat window and the blood on the ground! GROSS!!!

For heavens sake! Maybe we should take this as a sign and not get this apartment! But I guess this is just what comes from living in Harlem.

  1. NO WAY?!?! Oh my gosh! That's crazy. Where was this place? Hopefully not by our apartment. (The sign kind of looks like a laundromat I've seen by the church building up on 128th.) Freaky!

  2. I should add that I promise I never feel unsafe in our neighborhood. Really. Not everywhere in Harlem is scary! I just don't want you be scared away from being our neighbors. :) In fact, I bet our street is the safest in Harlem! Haha. Seriously though, it is really safe. :)

  3. Angie! You are so good! It is the laundromat across from the church! You are a true Native.

  4. I think Pat actually captured the aftermath of a serious V8 spill with the evidence (bottle) sitting on the ground to the left. Besides, while people are shooting each other outside your apartment, you'll be enjoying your meals on a granite countertop.

Unless Pat gets caught up in being cool and belonging to a Harlem neighborhood gang (which I wouldn't count out), I wouldn't be too worried.

  5. eh, this happens everywhere. It's like that what hunk of fat in pork and beans... you stay away from it, but it gives the rest of the mixture flavor.

  6. That is crazy! I would be a little freaked out by the person getting shot thing, but I'm such a dog fan that I think the apartment would be worth it to have little fido. Plus, just like Johnny said, it could be V8. ;)

  7. Crime is everywhere. Everynight on the news you will hear about gunshootings and such no matter where you hang your hat. In Sac town I am repulsed by some of the crime that goes on. I know it is scary, but you have to remember that you have to live your life and don't let fear rule you and the choices you make. You had such a great summer there so keep that in your memory! Sad to see you go, but excited to hear all the adventures you will undoubtedly have!

  8. SO you're thinking about a dog???? Scout can be ready to go in no time! The apt sounds wonderful. Moms don't like to hear about shootings around where their children might live. I'm going with the v8 juice explanation.
