Meatball, Puppy or Gremlin?

Today we went and visited our kitty. I have been getting nervous because I had no idea what our kitty was going to look like and if I would think she was cute. Pat thought I was silly because he thinks all hairless cats are gross looking, but I don't feel that way but I still wasn't sure if I would think OUR kitty was cute.

However, once I saw our kitty I was still in love. Even though her markings are not what I would initially pick, I still love her. Sphynx kitties are so cute because they are so cuddly because they need to get close to you to stay warm. Our kitty loved sitting on our shoulders and being close to us. Even though I knew it was to stay warm, I like to think that she just really liked us.

I know hairless cats are not for everyone and that a lot of people think they are completely gross, not that the above picture helps my case anymore (hahha). But I just think they are the cutest things ever. Now I know how parents, who have really ugly kids, feel! hahhahaha

We still don't know what we are going to name her. I like Meatball or Puppy, but Pat keeps on calling her Gremlin.

  1. She is cute in a weird sort of way. :) What about the name "Gizmo," You know, the Gremiln's name before they turned all gross :)

  2. I think she's growing on me. I like the first picture a lot with her wrinkly forehead. My boys LOVED looking at her pictures. My 5 year old kept laughing at how wrinkly she is. My two year old kept saying, "Cold!" and pretended to shiver. I told him you would buy her a little sweater in the winter to keep her warm. How long until she is yours forever?

And Kelli, your kids are the cutest! We will have to bring out little kitty to visit you are and your family some time. We bring kitty home the second week of June...so it's coming up soon!

  6. Hi...blog stalker here.
Where did you get her? Was she a fortune? I looked into getting a hairless cat when I had a mouse. I am allergic to cats, do you think I would still be allergic to this cat? do you have an nyc source I could research? thanks.

  7. Lindsay, She is sooooo cute!! Love the ears. I kind of like Gizmo. Does she purr when she is cuddled? What color are her eyes? (Kind of hard to tell in the pictures). Can't wait to meet her. Mom Koelling

  8. Kage. Very good questions.
    1. I am getting her from a breeder in Brooklyn. I was lucky that I had one so close.
    2. Hairless cats tend to run around $1,200 - 1,500. They are not cheap. However, they tend to have very good health, which in the long run could save you in vet bills. You also want to look and see if they are TICA certified. This means that you have information on their genetic history which could be important, especially if you are breeding them. My kitty was $950 which seems to be a great deal, however, none of her shots were taken care of which cost a few hundred. Just some things to consider.
    3. If you are allergic to cats it is not guaranteed that you will not be allergic to hairless cats; however, they are considered to be HYPERallergenic. Typically when people are allergic to cats they are actually allergic to their dander. Cat dander consists of microscopic pieces of dry cat skin which becomes airborne, landing on bedding, curtains, carpeting, and other surfaces, including humans' skin and clothing. Thus, hairless cats still produce dander; however with the weekly baths and grooming the owners give this helps eliminate dander build up. Best thing to do is to visit a breeder house and rub those kitties all over you!
    4. The best source that we have found for NYC breeders is the New York City Ebay classifieds (http://newyork.ebayclassifieds.com/) We found that this has a few breeders in the area. But hairless cat breeder also ship their cats all over the country; however, this is an added cost.

Kage, Good luck to you and let me know if you need any other information. I love these cats. They have such a great personality and are so cute!

As for you Mom Koelling, she has green eyes. So cute.

  12. It doesn't appear she has whiskers...or are they so small. Does she purr when she cuddles? I love that she sits on your shoulder. I've shown these pictures to people at work and they love her too! Mom K

  13. Most hairless cats don't have whiskers. And yes she was purring really loud when she was cuddling close to us. I am so surprised that people actually think they are cute...maybe they are just saying that, but it still makes me feel good. hahaha

  16. Of course Marci! We should have a cat party and have everyone bring their cats! Of course ours would be the coolest...I mean a bangel cat and a hairless cat? It doesn't get more cool than that!

  17. Thanks for those VERY thorough answers. I live in Queens, just a few hundred feet from the Brooklyn border, so if I'm ever in the market, I can use your breeder! THANKS.
