The NBA Draft or The Jimmer Draft

A few days ago I was at work. We have an employee whose name is "Jim," however, when a meeting arrived for him a gentleman asked for "Jimmer." Knowing that he was probably making reference to THE Jimmer, I said "Jimmer Fredette?" I was quite please with myself, that I actually caught a sports reference.

The gentleman seemed a little surprised too and asked if I was a fan. I said I was and that I graduated from BYU. Probably being dazzled by my sports wits, he then offered me two tickets, on the 7th row, to the NBA Draft that was the following night! Of course I accepted them, even though I knew that most likely I wouldn't be going, but rather, Jimmer's number one fan would go be going in my place.

I was really excited to tell Pat about the tickets I just scored. And then Pat got really excited to tell Johnny, about the tickets I just scored. There was excitement all around.

I sent Pat to the draft with a camera with instructions to take pictures, which I am sure he was just thrilled about. It seemed like they had a great time and were not the only Jimmer fans there.

Jimmer was the 10th draft pick. I don't understand all the politics and strategy that goes into these draft picks, but he ended up going to the Sacramento Kings, where he will be starting as their guard. Go Jimmer! It is always exciting when a fellow Mormon is in the media. All Mormons everywhere feel a certain ownership over the person, me included. Who knows why, but I's got Mormon Pride.

Happy Birthday Joanna!

Today is my good friends birthday! Joanna is not a person who likes much attention given to her (sorry Joanna for me dedicating this post to you), which is really hard for me to accept sometimes.

For her birthday, I wanted to throw her a party or go out to dinner with friends, but Joanna, being the modest girl that she is, didn't want anything done for her. So, wanting to make her happy, I told her that her birthday present from me was not doing anything at all. What a great gift huh?

Well, it didn't quite work out as she wanted, but I did try to considerate.

Last night our husbands went to the NBA draft, leaving Joanna and I home. We wanted to do something to keep ourselves company during the evening. What a perfect opportunity to celebrate her birthday! It all worked out too perfectly.

I quickly called our friend Angie, to see if she was available to have a very small and quaint celebration, and she was! It all worked out perfectly.

Joanna came over to my house thinking we were going to spend the night in watching a chick flick. However, when she arrived at my house it was not just me that greeted her with a loud "HAPPY BIRTHDAY, but Angie as well!

We surprised her with a grim reaper birthday banner and a "Choose your own adventure" birthday. She had the choice of:

1. Getting a cupcake at Crumbs
2. Getting a shake at Shake Shack
3. Getting a cupcake at Sprinkles
4. Or staying in an watching a movie

Joanna chose option #3...Sprinkles. I was excited since this new shop is all the buzz and I had never been there.

Once we arrived at Sprinkles the next hard part was deciding on a flavor. They all looked so good. We decided to get 4 different flavors and split them, since we couldn't decide.

We "just happened" to have birthday candles and a lighter in my purse, so we quickly (very quickly) sang happy birthday as Joanna blew out her candle on her cupcake.

For Joanna's birthday, I was very sneaky and looked at her Pinterest boards, and got her a print from Etsy that she pinned as "Products to buy." Just another reason to love Pinterest. It was so nice because I didn't have to worry about Joanna not liking her gift, only worrying that I didn't beat her to the punch and already bought it. Luckily, I did beat her to the punch, and she hadn't purchased it yet.

Although, Joanna doesn't like surprises, I hoped she liked this low key surprise for her birthday. When I first met Joanna I was convinced that she hated me (more here). I am so glad that I eventual "grew" on her and that we were able to become such good friends and have been able to experience such exciting times in our lives together. Joanna is the most "real" person I have ever met and I admire and appreciate her loyalty and trustworthy nature. I am so glad that I can call her my friend.

Happy Birthday Joanna!

We really need to have kids, pronto

If you have never been around a Sphynx (or hairless cat), then most likely you just think they are ugly cats that look like gremlins or aliens. However, once you see them in person and get a taste of their loveable personalities, I promise they no longer seem so ugly. Okay, I am a bit bias, and really can't relate to people that think this because I just think they are cutest things ever.

We have really been enjoying our little Montee.

This is a very informative video that really got us hooked on hairless cats.

Summer Birthdays

This past Sunday we spent the evening in Central Park celebrating our good friends, Casey and Klane's, birthdays. I love getting together with friends, especially when it's in celebration of something or someone.

Sunday's weather was perfect, which New York does not have too often. So when it does come, we make sure that we get out and enjoy it, along with 8 million other New Yorkers. Weather surely does not go unappreciated around here.

Last year, right around this time, we met at the same place in Central Park, and for the same reason: in celebration of Casey and Klane's birthdays. I hope we don't have to wait another year to do this again, because this surely should be a weekly tradition, rather than a yearly one.

All pictures compliments of Angie Harding. The best photo journalist ever.
It is so nice having friends that take pictures,
so I don't have to worry about forgetting an event
if I didn't bring my camera.
Thanks Angie!

The Full Montee

Life around the Koelling household has been less than eventful these past few weeks. Some causes of this are wanting to stay home with Montee, so we don't get a weird anti social cat since we are gone all day, and Pat working non-stop.

Events and activities as of late:
- Pat working days, nights and weekends
- Me coming home to a cat and no husband (at least I have something to come home to)
- Saw X-MEN
- Making JibJab movies

-Getting caught in a rain storm on my home from work because my cheap umbrella wouldn't open (It was actually really fun and nice)

- Reading and watching a lot of Netflix
- Cleaning cat pee off our bed comforter TWICE
- Scanning and organizing all my photos from childhood

-Currently listening Nsync's "It's Gonna Be Me" So. Good.

That is about it.
