The NBA Draft or The Jimmer Draft

A few days ago I was at work. We have an employee whose name is "Jim," however, when a meeting arrived for him a gentleman asked for "Jimmer." Knowing that he was probably making reference to THE Jimmer, I said "Jimmer Fredette?" I was quite please with myself, that I actually caught a sports reference.

The gentleman seemed a little surprised too and asked if I was a fan. I said I was and that I graduated from BYU. Probably being dazzled by my sports wits, he then offered me two tickets, on the 7th row, to the NBA Draft that was the following night! Of course I accepted them, even though I knew that most likely I wouldn't be going, but rather, Jimmer's number one fan would go be going in my place.

I was really excited to tell Pat about the tickets I just scored. And then Pat got really excited to tell Johnny, about the tickets I just scored. There was excitement all around.

I sent Pat to the draft with a camera with instructions to take pictures, which I am sure he was just thrilled about. It seemed like they had a great time and were not the only Jimmer fans there.

Jimmer was the 10th draft pick. I don't understand all the politics and strategy that goes into these draft picks, but he ended up going to the Sacramento Kings, where he will be starting as their guard. Go Jimmer! It is always exciting when a fellow Mormon is in the media. All Mormons everywhere feel a certain ownership over the person, me included. Who knows why, but I's got Mormon Pride.
