Columbine Book Review

Last week I finished the book "Columbine" by Dave Cullen. I bought the book excited to show Pat my next read. I thought he would be interested in the truth behind "Columbine" as he grew up in the very town it occurred. However, I was disappointed to find that Pat had absolutely no interest in the story, as his high school years were overloaded with the event—he was through with hearing about "Columbine."

This almost deterred me from reading it, but for some reason I wanted to know the truth behind the stories I had heard as a sophomore in high school. I think we all remember the day were heard about the attack; and as I began my teaching career, I saw how this event would forever alter how teachers viewed teaching and their students. If I ever did teach again, I wanted to know what lead these kids to commit such horrible acts and if anything could have been done to prevent it.

I found it interesting to read about the true character of the murderers and the true stories of their victims. Of course at times it was hard to read the events of that day; however, what they had planned was far worse than what happened. I believe Heavenly Father was there looking out for his children; and yet still allowing these boys to have their agency.

  1. Did Patrick tell you there was a bomb threat at his high school that same morning? Talk about having my heart in my throat. All we heard about for days afterwards were updates about Colombine. In fact, they still have a memorial every year that is telecast. So I can see why Patrick had heard enough. I can't imagine being the teachers and students that day....MOM Koelling
