On Monday, the Rowells called in a few favors and got their friends to take us on a horseback ride into the Utah mountains. This family has 10 horses/mules, one of which is a month old baby colt.
They were so nice to round up all their horses/mules for us and to take us on a ride we will always remember.I was not able to take too many pictures because I was too scared to let go and hold on with one hand and by the time I was comfortable enough to do it it was dark and the horses don't like camera flashes (or so I found out).
I have always been a little scared of horses, due to their extreme power and the fact that they can do anything THEY want with YOU on their back.
As we were riding I couldn't believe how quiet and beautiful it was with the sun setting with its majestic oranges, yellows, pinks, and blues and the crickets chirping in the background. We have only been gone for a little over a year, but I have forgotten what crickets sound like and how much I love that sound.
On our way back Pat's mule acted up and started galloping for no reason but he handled it like a really cowboy. It definitely scared me more than it scared him.
We ended the night eating dessert, next to a classic log cabin, under the star lit sky.
Wow. This definitely is Utah at its finest.

can i have your camera please?
ReplyDeleteBEAUTIFUL!!!
ReplyDeleteohmygosh you guys really are getting the very best of Utah. I lived there like 5 years and never went boating OR horseback riding!!
Also, those pictures of the horses kill me, especially the first two! They are beautiful pictures!!
I grew up riding horses (my grandpa is a farmer/rancher), so this post was very near and dear to my heart! I love horses but it has been a few years since I've had the chance to ride. I love your pictures and it looks like so much fun! Such a perfect evening. Very "western", all around.
