NYC Marathon

This past Sunday was the New York City Marathon.
Pat and I decided to take a look and be a part of the excitement.

When we got home from church we started watching NBC, which was following the runners and tracking their progress throughout the race. We thought this was airing live, so we got really excited when they started coming near our apartment. We hurried out the door hoping to see them run past; however, to our disappointment we realized that NBC was airing the run hours after the runners had already finished. Dang! We were really sad we missed it.

But there were still TONS of runners running so we decided to go cheer them on. I had read in the news paper an article telling the marathon cheerleaders the do's and don'ts of cheering. Apparently you are never supposed to say "You're almost there!" Also, the runners often wear their names on their shirts and love it when you say their name and cheer them on. They also love it when you compliment their running gear. I had SO MUCH fun doing this. You really catch the spirit and it is fun to make these exhausted runners smile. However, Pat was embarrassed. He kept saying "You're killing me!"

The race went through all 5 boroughs and ended in Central Park. I can't get over how much I love the city this time of year. Central park is just so beautiful.

I was so amazed at all these people who were running in the race. We saw people wearing full-on mascot outfits, fireman uniforms, and suits. I don't know why you would make the race even harder than it already is!

Hot dog stand in Central Park just waiting to temp the runners.

Some notable people we saw running in the race were
Al Roker and Jared the subway man.

I love NYC in the Fall!

  2. I love your pictures! That one of the leaves and the sun coming through the trees is great. I also loved the video of you cheering on the marathoners! Hahaha! So fun and funny! I did not envy those people running by in the video, a lot of them looked like they were not too happy to have just run 24 miles. I never want to run a marathon! But that is so fun you went to experience the marathon, I wish I would've! We didn't do anything marathon related except be late for church because the marathon messed up the bus schedules.

  3. It really was super neat to see the runners, huh? I did not even think to take pictures! Central Park is looking so pretty right now. I need to head over there again soon before all the leaves are gone.

You and Pat are such an attractive couple. Your kids are gonna be hawt!

  4. Oh my gosh Lindsay, that video kills me. I love you - you are so awesome. I really love cheering people on at races like this. Nate's sister in Albany recently ran a half and then a whole and we could only be there for the first one and I was so bummed. It really made me want to run a (half) marathon!
