Firefly Hunting

The other night Pat and I were coming home from a run in Central Park at dusk. Pat noticed tiny lights spontaneously flashing in the woods. It turns out that we came across a bunch of fireflies.

I have never seen fireflies before and was in complete awe. How could an insect produce light? It was absolutely beautiful to see and I felt like a kid again.

We wanted to investigate them further so this past Sunday night some friends and us went firefly hunting. We set out to Central Park with mason jar and kid-like excitement in hopes of finding some lightning bugs.

We found the fireflies but were a little disappointed that they would only glow when they were flying around in nature, as guess as nature intended.

I love fireflies!! I remember catching them as a little girl back in NH and then when James & I lived in Omaha we found some! Good times.

  2. I spent many a night catching fireflies in my backyard growing up. They love humidity, which is why the aren't out west. I would always cup them in my hands and carry them around...then they don't stop lighting up.
