On Friday, I took a little "picture" break from work and walked a few blocks
to Rockefeller Center to see the Tree.
When I saw the tree in person I was a little disappointed.

I don't know what I was expecting; however, the towering buildings
made the tree look small and insignificant. Just call me "Debby Downer."

When we watched the lighting of the tree on TV it seems so grand and beautiful.
Maybe I just need to see the tree at night.

It is impressive how many lights must be on this tree.
They should have that contest where everyone guesses
and then whoever gets the closest wins a prize.
I love that game.

I love that game.
I wasn't willing to wait my turn so this is as close as I got.
So far, Christmas is my favorite time in NYC.
This judgment may be a bit mature since it hasn't gotten cold yet.

Cold or not, the city is just so magical.
p.s. Too bad that google ruins all the fun of "not knowing." I just googled it and according to wikianswers the tree has
30,000 LED lights powered by 363 Solar Panels.

Hahah, you're right, it's only a 65+ foot Christmas tree in the middle of Manhattan, no big deal. Haha, just kidding. I feel the same way about a lot of things here, though. People hype stuff up way too much! I try to keep a life of low expectation because then I'm never disappointed. I also love that you got the picture of the picture you didn't want to wait for. That's that's what I'm talkin about.
ReplyDeleteI love this post! You crack me up! The guessing game is so much fun. It is most fun when people are so far off from the right answer. Boo to wiki for ruining the fun. I love how NY goes all out for the holidays. The window creations and the tree in Rockefeller square seem so unreal to me. Guess I'll have to visit!
ReplyDeleteLady. Go at night. Then go into Anthro to get warm. And then go look at Bergdorf's window displays because they are always the best (on a weeknight) and let the magic surround you.
ReplyDeleteDebbie Downer, indeed. Leave it to you to be disappointed with the Rockefeller tree. At night it is much more majestic. When I saw it in the day, it was not nearly as great.
ReplyDeleteAgree with Jo and MB, night is better. Especially combined with window displays and maybe some hot cocoa. But I still loved the pictures you got! Especially the one of the angel. I really liked that. This city is amazing at Christmas! I love it.
ReplyDeleteI think it makes sense you would be disappointed. You lived on Temple Square for 2 winters. Its hard for one tree to compete with that.
ReplyDeletei love the picture you took of the lights. you must have a pretty awesome zoom if you weren't able to get that close to the tree.
ReplyDeletep.s. just in case this comment doesn't say it enough, i think you're pretty talented with that camera of yours :)
p.s.s. i am with ashley about the low expectations thing. that's my motto for life actually haha
